endless knot tattooChinese line art
The Chinese endless knot, or panchang, is a woven line that interlocks with itself and never has a visible beginning or end. It is a Buddhist emblem of interdependence, and structurally it is one of the few motifs that stays legible at finger scale because it fills a square with continuous line.

Size guide
Small knot: 2.5–4 cm. Simplified knot: 2–3 cm. Large panel knot: 8–15 cm.
What does an endless knot mean?
It represents interdependence and the endless cycle of cause and effect, because the line has no start or end. As one of the eight auspicious symbols in Buddhism it signifies wisdom, skill and auspiciousness. Because it reads as continuous, it is also a common choice for couples, though it works equally well as a standalone mark.
Is a knot tattoo too intricate at small size?
The crossing points are the risk, the same as with an infinity symbol. A panchang has many crossings, so below about 2 cm the crossings merge into a dark blob. Keeping it at 2.5 cm or larger, or simplifying to two or three crossings rather than the full count, keeps the pattern readable.
