Wedding tattoo
One occasion in depth: designs that mark it, and how to keep a set looking like a set.
A wedding tattoo marks a marriage date, usually as a matching pair on two people or as a single piece on the ring finger. The ring finger is the hardest common placement: it is small, constantly moved, exposed to sun and often to water, so anything fine-lined there fades fastest of anywhere on the body.

Size guide
Ring finger: 1.5–2.5 cm solid. Forearm date: 8–12 cm. Stacked date and initials: 6–10 cm.
What should a wedding tattoo look like?
Bold and permanent, because you are committing to something for life. A solid shape or a thick date format survives the ring finger; a fine-line date does not. If the piece must sit on the ring finger, plan it as a solid shape at least 1.5 cm tall and expect to want a touch-up within two years.
- Ring finger: solid shape, 1.5 cm minimum
- Forearm: bold date format, 8–12 cm
- Avoid: hairline script on fingers
How do you keep a wedding date readable forever?
Keep every stroke at 0.6 mm or thicker and avoid placing the design over a knuckle, where skin folds compress the design each time the hand closes. A date on the forearm side of the wrist or inside the arm has far more usable space than the ring finger and fades much more slowly.
